A Gourmet Weekend In Uppsala

This weekend we had a fabulous overnight stay in Uppsala, dropping the kids off with Birgitta for Saturday night so we could stay the night at the hotel Villa Anna. Autumn is now definitely here, the sky is grey and the weather is a lot wetter generally, but we do get a chance to witness the change in seasons as the leaves turn brown and red and the days grow shorter. Sista April and Valborgs Day In Uppsala

On Monday we were in Uppsala and got to experience one of the towns big traditions: Valborgs day or sista April (the last day of April). There are many explanations for the festivities: Valborg was an English princess who was an abbess in Germany in the 7th century and subsequently sainted, and this day was named in her honour. There are also stories involving witchesbut generally speaking this day is considered the first day of summer, and everyone celebrates accordingly.
